Murphy is a quaint town with a variety of shoppes.  Just a short distance from Murphy there are many attractions.  We have the best trout fishing in the country, Whitewater Rafting Adventures, Golfing, Hiking, Canoeing, Kayaking , Horseback riding, Biking and the most beautiful mountain scenery around.

Brasstown Bald
Brasstown Bald is the highest point in GA and is 45 minutes from Murphy and the 360 degree sight is one that you will not forget.  You can see 4 states from the observation deck.
Highest in a spine of mountains collectively known as Wolfpen Ridge, Brasstown Bald looms over the Southern Appalachians taller but less popular than its' better known brothers, Blood and Trey Mountains. Easily recognized by the tower atop the peak it is actually the third station to sit on the acme.

Amicalola  Falls -This is just one of the beautiful waterfalls in the area.  It is an hour from Murphy and you will travel through areas of great wildlife as you travel to this spectacular falls.   It's easy to see why this is one of Georgia's most popular state parks. Amicalola, a Cherokee Indian word meaning "tumbling waters," is an appropriate name for these 729-foot falls ~~ the tallest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River. An 8.5-mile approach trail leads from the park to Springer Mountain, the southern end of the famed 2,135-mile Appalachian Trail. However, numerous other trails are available for shorter journeys.

Biltmore Estates - Just a short 2 hr drive with unbelievable views as you travel to the Famous Biltmore Estates. Plan your getaway to George Vanderbilt's 8,000-acre estate. Your admission includes self-guided tours of the breathtaking Biltmore House & gardens.

Pickin in the Park
Just round the bend a 30 minute travel time from Murphy is a Thursday night must, with Pickin in the Park at Horseshoe Bend Park, located in McCaysville, Ga.  Bring a picnic basket of food and a blanket so you can be entertained by some of the most talented locals you will ever see and hear.  The park is along the Toccoa River where the kids can tube while you enjoy the music.  This family event brings everyone together with the banjo and fiddles pickin to the songs from generations past and present.
The Toccoa River is popular for fly fishing for both young and old.

Whitewater rafting at the Ocoee
For the adventuress traveler we are close to two wonderful Whitewater Rivers for the rafting adventure of a lifetime . 
To the west is the Ocoee River where the 1996 Olympics held the summer Kayak Slalom and Canoe events.  You can visit the Olympic Center to view the great rafting adventures down the Ocoee or you can book your rafting adventure with one of the many rafting tours.
To the east is the Nantahala River Center.  Since 1972, the NOC has shared the outdoors with millions of guests on the white water river rafting trips.  With a variety of kayak and canoe instructions, and on mountain bikes. Located in the western North Carolina near the Great Smokey Mountain Park just 45 minutes from Murphy.

Lake Chatuge
Lake - Chatuge- The place "where the water dogs laughed," is how Cherokee legend described the Tusquitee area. A part of the Nantahala Forest in Clay County, North Carolina., it is one of the most scenic lakes in the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) water system. This pristine lake, exquisitely nestled between the Tusquitee Mountains named "the Great Blue Hills of God," by the Cherokee has 128 miles of shoreline and is ideal for fishing, swimming, boating and camping. Visitors enjoy casual walks along the dam with its spectacular view of the lake and surrounding mountains. The lake has numerous outcrops of land forming numerous private coves that are for great fishing, swimming, boating, and water sports. The fishing is great with more than 32 species in the lake.
